Personal Journey and Background
Can you share with us your journey into golf? How did you start playing, and what drew you to the sport?
I started playing at the age of 6. My dad introduced me to the game, I had a love for all balls sports from a very young age.
Who were your biggest influences and mentors growing up, both in and outside of golf?
My dad was my biggest influence growing up. He taught me all the things I needed to know from a very young age. My golf role models growing up were Ernie Els, Retief Goosen, Annika Sorenestam and Karrie Webb.
What has been the most challenging part of your journey as a professional golfer?
Being on the road for long periods of time, away from family and friends is always tough. In 2013 I also had to take 6 months off due to hip surgery. Unfortunately injuries are part of our job but are always the toughest things to work through.
How do you balance your personal life and your professional career?
I am lucky that my husband travels and caddies out on tour this gives me some sort of normalcy and is a great support for me.
I have also learnt that during my weeks off it is important to rest well and enjoy taking a break from golf so I feel refreshed when I go back on tour.
PREPERATION FOR THE OLYMPICS
Congratulations on qualifying for the Olympics! How does it feel to represent South Africa on such a prestigious international stage?
Representing South Africa is the biggest honour you can receive and I am so grateful to be able to have this opportunity.
Can you describe your training regimen as you prepare for the Olympics? What specific areas are you focusing on?
I am unfortunately currently recovering from a broken toe and unable to play in the tournaments I was supposed to leading up to the Olympics.
This has however given me some time to rest after a long 7 week stretch of travel. I am using this downtime to be productive in the gym with my trainer and work on the mental side of my game.
